Have you read the book “High-Performance Habits” by Brendon Burchard – if not, you need to. The book premises that studies have shown that those considered “high-performers” exhibit certain habits. One of the first habits it mentions is called “Clarity.”

There was one particularly challenging statement in this section: When all is said and done, what 3 words do you want people to remember you by?

If you’ve read leadership books, you must have seen some format of this question. However, they usually say “describe” your eulogy or what you’ll leave behind. This long-winded description is natural for most of us; it’s easy to word vomit. It’s challenging to do, but showing you the clarity it can provide; here are my 3 words.

God-Fearing. Kind. Present.

God-Fearing

God and the Christian Faith are a massive part of my life. Faith should be the first thing people think of when they remember me—knowing the One that Saves and how he has shaped my life, how His love has changed me and others. He deserves all the credit and glory. If it weren’t for Him, I wouldn’t be who I am.

Kind

Our world needs more people who take a moment to be kind to others. Kindness is not lying or telling falsehoods. It is about showing others you care. Sometimes it’s about being painfully honest and lending a helping hand.

Present

How often do we hang out with a friend or family and realize that we spent so much time on the phone? Texting, social media, Youtube… The list is endless. To be present is to be fully there with them at the moment. When you prioritize people, it shows them how valuable they are. When you aren’t present, it shows them that other things are more important (notifications on Instagram, Facebook Messenger, or work emails.)
